Will waxing my lip hurt? We are not going to lie, it might hurt a little as the hair gets pulled from the follicle. However, it goes by quickly and is easily tolerable. We try to make it as comfortable as possible by immediately applying pressure with our hand at the waxed area. This little step tricks your brain into focusing on the pressure rather than pain.

Is waxing lip safe for all skin types? Yes. At Beauty Republic, we use high-quality hard wax that grabs the hair — not your skin — which makes it much gentler. That said, if you have a cold sore, active acne around your lip, or you’re on any medications that make your skin more sensitive, let us know before your appointment. We may still be able to proceed, but we need to have all the details to make sure it is safe.

Can I get lip waxing if I’m pregnant? Yes, you can, but… Pregnancy affects hormones and it can influence your skin sensitivity, causing some irritation or even mild swelling. Honestly, you could also be more prone to pigmentation and broken capillaries. Our goal is to avoid that and that’s why we will proceed with extreme caution. Depending on how far along you are, we can perform service while you sit to make you feel more comfortable.

Can I wear makeup after waxing upper lip? Wait at least a couple of hours and only use non-comedogenic products and clean tools (sponges, brushes), if you absolutely have to. If you can wait, 24 hours is ideal. When applying makeup products right away, you are risking introducing bacteria into your temporarily open pores. That can cause irritation and we don’t want that.

Will my hair grow back thicker or darker after lip waxing? Oh, we love debunking that common myth! The truth is – your hair thickness and color are genetically predetermined and will not be affected by waxing. Though it might appear darker at first. Only because the hair that we waxed was already lightened by the sun, but the new hair has its true color. With regular waxing, you can even expect slower and less dense hair growth.

Can I get lip waxing if I use retinoids? Yes, but you’ll need to pause them for at least 48 hours before and after your session. Why? Retinoids exfoliate and thin the skin (purposely!) which is great for cell turnover, but not ideal right before waxing. Combining the two can lead to irritation, pigmentation, or even sun sensitivity. A short break helps protect your skin and ensures the best results.
