What to Expect During Your Lip Waxing Appointment
We will discuss your previous experience with upper lip waxing, as well as any possible contraindications, like herpes or use of certain medications. Your safety comes first. We’ll gently remove your makeup with a gentle facial cleanser. Then, we’ll prep the area with an alcohol-based toner to strip oils and bacteria. Now your skin is clean and ready for waxing.
At Beauty Republic we only use high-quality hard wax to remove the lip hair. The standard technique of applying the wax in the direction of the hair growth and removing against, ensures the hair is removed fully vs broken at the surface for a smooth finish. We will repeat the process a few times to ensure we’ve removed all the hair and use tweezers if need be to remove the stubborn hairs.
We will apply a calming cream or lotion afterwards and finish with SPF, if needed. Rarely, some people get little white pimples after waxing the upper lip – usually from bacteria entering the pores. Keep the area clean and avoid touching your face or applying makeup right away.

That said, if you have a cold sore, active acne around your lip, or you’re on any medications that make your skin more sensitive, let us know before your appointment. We may still be able to proceed, but we need to have all the details to make sure it is safe.
Yes, you can, but… Pregnancy affects hormones and it can influence your skin sensitivity, causing some irritation or even mild swelling. Honestly, you could also be more prone to pigmentation and broken capillaries. Our goal is to avoid that and that’s why we will proceed with extreme caution. Depending on how far along you are, we can perform service while you sit to make you feel more comfortable.
Wait at least a couple of hours and only use non-comedogenic products and clean tools (sponges, brushes), if you absolutely have to. If you can wait, 24 hours is ideal. When applying makeup products right away, you are risking introducing bacteria into your temporarily open pores. That can cause irritation and we don’t want that.
Oh, we love debunking that common myth! The truth is – your hair thickness and color are genetically predetermined and will not be affected by waxing. Though it might appear darker at first. Only because the hair that we waxed was already lightened by the sun, but the new hair has its true color. With regular waxing, you can even expect slower and less dense hair growth.
Yes, but you’ll need to pause them for at least 48 hours before and after your session. Why? Retinoids exfoliate and thin the skin (purposely!) which is great for cell turnover, but not ideal right before waxing. Combining the two can lead to irritation, pigmentation, or even sun sensitivity. A short break helps protect your skin and ensures the best results.
